SLF SENDS DEMAND LETTER TO CHARLOTTE MAYOR CHALLENGING CITY QUOTA PROGRAM
Media Advisory, December 4, 2001
From Demand Letter: "Race conscious policies like Charlotte's Minority & Women Business Development program are presumptively unconstitutional."
SLF gives 10 days to City of Charlotte to rescind MWBD program and to pay $300,000 in damages for discriminatory denial of client United Construction, Inc.'s low bid for the Monroe/Sharon Amity intersection improvement contract. If no action from city, lawsuit in federal district court to follow later this month.
SLF has successfully litigated affirmative action challenges in Atlanta, GA; DeKalb County, GA; Jacksonville, FL; Nashville, TN; and, Richmond, VA. Founded in 1976, SLF is a non-profit constitutional public interest law firm that has litigated more than a dozen cases in the U.S. Supreme Court on issues ranging from property rights and free speech to unconstitutional government quota programs and taxation.
