U.S. REP. BOB BARR JOINS SLF LEGAL ADVISORY BOARD

Constitutionalist legal mind, patriot in Barr

November 27, 2002

ATLANTA: The Southeastern Legal Foundation today announced that U.S. Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA) has been confirmed as the newest member of the Foundation's Legal Advisory Board, which guides and approves the legal work of the Foundation. Barr's position is effective in January 2003, when he leaves Congress.

Barr served as President of the Foundation in early 1990s, before entering elective politics.

"Bob Barr is a perfect fit with Southeastern Legal Foundation, and we are honored that he has accepted this new post," said Phil Kent, SLF president. "His long, successful career as an effective lawmaker, state and community leader, former president of the Foundation, and former U.S. Attorney will bring welcomed insight and practical experience to our aggressive style of litigation and policymaking."

Southeastern Legal Foundation, founded in 1976, is one of the nation's leading constitutional public interest law firms and policy centers with more than 130,000 supporters nationwide. SLF has won more than a dozen U.S. Supreme Court decisions on issues ranging from protection of property rights to free speech to unfair taxation to illegal affirmative action quotas. Foundation representatives are regularly sought for congressional and state legislative testimony, as well as national media commentary.

Barr has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 1995. During his tenure in Congress, he was recognized as one of the most effective lawmakers on Capitol Hill. His exemplary service on the House Judiciary Committee secured him a position as a House Manager during the Clinton impeachment proceedings. He served as a plaintiff in the Foundation's 1999 landmark U.S. Supreme Court case challenging the constitutionality of the Clinton Census 2000 plan to use statistical sampling rather than an actual head count, and is currently a plaintiff in the Foundation's constitutional challenge against the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, McConnell, et al. v. Federal Elections Commission, Federal Communications Commission.

"By joining the distinguished ranks of the Legal Advisory Board at Southeastern Legal Foundation, I will continue to serve the long-term interests our our region and of this nation," said Barr. "SLF is a results-oriented organizations with a stellar record of success, and I am proud to continue to be part of this team."
