Unemployment

In 2000, Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes signed into law the largest tax cut in Georgia history, a $1 billion, 4-year moratorium on the Unemployment Insurance tax -- as a direct result of SLF's three-year policy effort and study demonstrating a 7-year reserve in the current state fund. Similar SLF efforts in four other SE states resulted in $750 million in Unemployment Insurance tax rebates and savings. SLF takes seriously its mandate to "defend free enterprise" by applying top free market policy analysis to government tax schemes at the local, state and national levels.
